We are a highly selective honor society for social work graduate and undergraduate students with over 225 chapters in the United States.

Purpose
The purposes of Phi Alpha Honor Society are to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership, those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work.
History
The Mu Delta Chapter of the Phi Alpha Honor Society for Social Workers was established at the University of Southern Indiana March 1, 2004 by Dr. Kathy Elpers and Dr. Thomas Bordelon. The national honor society was formalized with the adoption of a constitution in 1962.
Membership Information
Qualifications for Membership
If you are an outstanding student and have demonstrated leadership skills, then you may qualify for membership in the Phi Alpha Honor Society. Please read the Mu Delta Chapter's By-laws and Constitution to learn about the structure of the organization, and the qualifications for membership. We encourage all eligible persons to apply.

Application Deadlines and Fees
Applications will be accepted from January 7, 2013, through February 22, 2013. Late applications will not be accepted. Please enclose a check made out to Phi Alpha Honor Society for $60 with your completed application. The fee includes life membership, certificate, and medallion. If the fee prohibits you from applying for membership, contact the faculty sponsors to discuss your situation. You will receive an email or letter of acceptance or denial in March, and your check will be either cashed or returned to you at that time. If accepted, you will receive information by email or mail about the initiation Ceremony, which is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, April 4, 2013 (remove March 28) at 4:30 p.m. in ED 1101.
After you have completed your application, do one of the following:
- deliver your completed application to the Social Work Department in ED 0129
- mail it to:
