I earned my MA & PhD in Sociology at the University of California – Riverside (1994, 1999) (UCR). Prior to teaching at USI, I taught at UCR as a Lecturer, then moved to Indiana to teach at Indiana State University. I have also taught at Marian University in Indianapolis.

I wrote my doctoral dissertation, Community Suicide, on a community of Roman Catholic nuns, and the sociology of religion is my primary research interest. I have also taught a wide variety of courses including sociological theory, both classical and modern.

I enjoy disaster movies, art museums, stimulating conversation, “moldy oldies” music, gardening, and cooking for friends; I dabble in Egyptology, and used to be a ballroom dancer.

I grew up outside of Boston, Massachusetts but lived for most of my adult life in Southern California.
