The purpose of the USI Art Club is to bring awareness of the visual arts to the university and the community. Membership in the USI Art Club is open to all USI students.
In the past, membership benefits have included: meetings with other students who have an interest in art; collaborative art projects; art tours to Chicago, New York, London and other art centers to visit art museums, art galleries, special exhibitions and other cultural sites; opportunities for students to exhibit and sell their artwork; and participation in Family Weekend, Springfest, and other university-sponsored club events.
One major fundraiser each year allows the Art Club to contribute to student art awards, the art tours, visiting artists, community outreach and other planned projects.
Associate Professor Millard-Mendez Awarded
Associate Professor of Art Rob Millard-Mendez continues to be one of our most prolific faculty members. In addition to a solo exhibition at Illinois Central College this fall, his work has appeared in juried shows at the Ann Arbor Art Center in Ann Arbor, MI; Studio Oh! in Chicago, IL; Krempp Gallery in Jasper, IN; The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art in Augusta, GA, where it earned an Honorable Mention; and the Sella-Granata Art Gallery in Tuscaloosa, AL. In addition, Rob will be spending the month of February doing a Studio Fellowship at the prestigious Center For Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine as part of his spring sabbatical activities.
Recent awards include: Arts Illiana Award of Recognition, 70th Annual Wabash Valley Juried Exhibition, Swope Museum, Terre Haute, IN; Best in Show, Art Noir, Bower-Suhrheinrich Foundation Gallery, Evansville, IN; Third Place, American Craft Exhibition, Artlink, Fort Wayne, IN; Second Place, Adams County Arts Council 11th Annual Juried Art Exhibition, Schmucker Art Gallery, Gettysburg, PA; First Place 3-D, 20th Annual Working Together Exhibition, Evansville Museum, Evansville, IN.
