Creative writing programs at the University of Southern Indiana provide focused coursework for students interested in writing poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, playwriting and screen writing. Creative writing faculty are published writers committed to undergraduate writing excellence and their craft.
Creative writing students and faculty form an exciting literary community, which offers many opportunities to get involved, like the Student Writers Union, the New Harmony Writers Workshop, FishHook (a student literary magazine), Southern Indiana Review (a national bi-annual literary journal) and the Ropewalk Reading Series.

The English Department offers a major in English with a creative writing emphasis, as well as a minor and a certificate in creative writing.
The major in English with a creative writing emphasis culminates in a Bachelor of Arts degree, which requires 12 semester hours in the same foreign language or demonstration of proficiency at that level of study.
