Center for Social Justice Education

The Center for Social Justice Education (CSJE), situated within the Social Work Department of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Southern Indiana, was established in 2009 to foster advocacy for social justice and empowerment through education, research and collaboration.

The Center promotes social justice and empowerment through advocacy, education, research and collaboration. The Center is dedicated to individual and societal well-being in a global community, promoting critical thinking and a systems perspective across agencies, institutes, departments and individuals to pursue social change for all individuals' well-being.

The University of Southern Indiana Social Work Department is a resource to social service agencies in program evaluation, strategic planning, grant writing, program development and education. The Center for Social Justice Education provides a visible point of contact for social service agencies and assists social service agencies in meeting the objectives of federal funding streams issuing stimulus dollars for social services and educates future social workers.

The collaborative philosophy of the Center provides an integrated approach to address timely social issues through the Center, working closely with USI degree programs, the Office of Sponsored Projects and Research Administration, the Center for Applied Research and Economic Development and Outreach and Engagement. Complex social problems require a multi-faceted approach to generate alternative approaches to strengthen helping systems and society. Faculty and students benefit from the opportunity to work with multiple disciplines.
