Fighting the Fires of Hate:
America and the Nazi Book Burnings

About the Exhibition:
Rice Library is honored to host this traveling exhibit from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Starting with the first incident on May 10, 1933, the exhibition chronicles the use of book burnings to suppress freedom of expression throughout Nazi Germany. Featuring documents, artifacts, and news coverage the displays explore how these burnings became utilized as an important, anti-Nazi symbol for Americans during World War II. It concludes with a discussion on the present-day implications of these practices.
