International
Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences (E-Book)
The
online International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences (IESS),
2nd edition, contains 3,000 entries on social science topics such as
political correctness, aging, cultural adaptation, and terrorism, and
social science scholars such as mathematician John Nash. IESS
is an e-book version of the nine-volume print encyclopedia of the same
title, and builds on earlier editions of the encyclopedia published
in 1935 and 1968. While its main focus is social sciences, IESS’
scope extends to psychology, philosophy of science, cultural studies,
linguistics, religion, economics, and statistics. Scholars from around
the world have contributed to the 2nd edition of IESS, including
many Nobel Prize winners and historically marginalized group members.
As all contributors were asked to write the entries for a readership
of nonspecialists, the content in IESS is especially beneficial
to college students.
