SCOLA!

Rice Library is pleased to host SCOLA on its website for the university. This multi-language resource is important to anyone studying a language or learning about other cultures.

What is SCOLA?

SCOLA is a non-profit, educational organization that aims to increase people’s understanding of others by providing resources that relate the vast array of cultures, ideologies, and languages that can be found in the world today.

The SCOLA database is one of the tools provided by this organization offering access to the world through a variety of outlets including televsion, radio, newspapers, photographs, and more.

 

What does SCOLA offer?

SCOLA offers a variety of subscription services that allow users to access different media formats. Some of these services include:

World TV Online - This feature supplies videostreamed television programs from over 100 countries. You can watch both live and recorded videos.

People and Places - This option allows users to search for images by country or category. Images include people, places, events, and cultures around the world.

Foreign Text - This sections allows access to newspapers, magazines, poetry, and children’s books from a variety of cultures. Users can search by country, language, or publication.

International Radio - This service enables users to listen to hard to find radio broadcasts from Afghanistan, Guatamala, and the Philipines.

 

How do I access SCOLA?

SCOLA is available to USI faculty and USI students currently enrolled for classes. It can be found on the library’s Databases A to Z page under “S”. Simply click on SCOLA to enter the database.

SCOLA is also accessible off-campus. Users will be required to provide their USI username and password before entering the database.
