Faculty Services - Databases
As a faculty member, you have access to the library's databases, such as ProQuest Health and Medical Complete, CINAHL, ABI/INFORM, PsycLit, Social Sciences Plus, JSTOR, and more.
All databases are available from inside the library; most are available from on campus; and several are accessible via remote access. To determine which databases allow remote access, go to http://www.usi.edu/databasesalpha.asp or call the Rice Library Reference Desk at 812/464-1907.
In addition to the individual databases mentioned above, the library has two electronic services offering multiple databases.
INSPIRE is Indiana's virtual library available to all state residents and accessible with any Web browser. INSPIRE covers academic and general databases, with some full-text articles..
FirstSearch is an Online information system that provides information about books, journal articles, films, computer software, and other materials in your subject area. The FirstSearch service available on the Web is a product of OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc. and requires an authorization and password. FirstSearch provides databases in a variety of subject areas.
Students who use this particular set of indexes can only access it in the library and a librarian must type in the authorization and password for them.
Faculty members may obtain an authorization and password by speaking to Phil Orr, Distance Learning Librarian. This will enable you to use FirstSearch from your office or home as long as you have a Web browser. If you are interested in establishing an account, contact Phil at 461-5328 or e-mail porr@usi.edu.
