If this is your first day, week, or month at USI, this list may help you get more familiar with the University and its people and services. We want to help you build a successful USI career.
This is a partial list of useful, need-to-know items about USI. More lists will be coming in the weeks ahead.
USI Today
USI Today is a web page with current news primarily for faculty and staff. It is updated often, sometimes daily, with news, employee features, details on upcoming events, and announcements. You can access it at www.usi.edu/usitoday and bookmark it.
You are invited and encouraged to submit items of interest to employees. A “Submit” button is provided on the page. One of the popular features on the site is Marketplace, a classified ad section with information about items employees want to buy and sell. There is no cost to employees to list items in Marketplace.
Weekly reminders about the news on USI Today will come to your email account with a link to the site. Contact Wendy Bredhold, editor, wkbredhold@usi.edu or Mary Woehler, managing editor, mewoehler@usi.edu in News & Information Services if you have questions.
Being social
USI is on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Pinterest. Like USI on Facebook at www.facebook.com/SouthernIndiana and follow on Twitter at twitter.com/usi_edu. We pin at www.pinterest.com/SouthernIndiana, and you may subscribe to our YouTube channel at uofsouthernindiana.
Public safety and RAVE text messaging
Public safety is of utmost importance at USI.
Fourteen emergency phones are located around the USI campus. Pressing a button on the phone will connect to the Public Safety emergency number.
For emergencies you may also call campus security at 7777. We encourage you to save the entire number, 812/492-7777, in your cell phones.
RAVE is the text messaging service that sends emergency information to persons who register. The service sends emergency information, weather alerts and information about class delay and or closings. Consider signing up for this service today at /emergency/alerts.asp
Convenient and tasty food options
This link http://www.usifood.com/locations.html will take you to a listing of food options on campus and a map showing where they are located. Check out Red Mango for frozen yogurt and other treats, Simply to Go for a quick bite between classes and or meetings, and The Loft (newly renovated) for meals and various food options. Multiple options await to meet your needs and time schedules.
Enjoy the nature trails on campus
The USI-Burdette Park Trail, a three-mile paved greenway, provides a safe route for bicyclists, walkers, and runners. Easy access points are available around campus. The paved trail offers access to a network of single-track trails, including the cross country trails and the University’s disc golf course. It also provides a link between campus and USI’s Broadway Recreational complex, which includes softball fields and other multi-purpose athletic fields. Known for being flat and easy in places and hilly and challenging in others, the trail has something for all ages. View a map and trail rules (PDF).
