This fall, two Simplex workshops will be offered through USI’s Division of Outreach and Engagement at Innovation Pointe in downtown Evansville. An intensive learning experience, Simplex is a problem solving methodology that utilizes creative and analytical thinking in an atmosphere of collaboration, learning and possibilities. It interconnects a process of creative problem solving with skills and tools to make that process work.
Learn how to build individual and team participation skills in Level I – Simplex: Solving Complex Problems. A highly practical workshop that has a proven ability to revolutionize the way people think, participants will learn the process, skills, and tools of applied creativity. Outcomes of the workshop will include proficiency in applying creative thinking skills of diverging, converging, and deferral of judgment, understanding and skill in executing the innovation process, awareness and understanding of different problem solving styles via the Basadur CPS profile, and how these styles impact teamwork, understanding of the meeting roles, and how to continuously improve meetings. Microsoft and other leading organizations use this innovation methodology. Participants may register to attend the workshop on Monday and Tuesday, October 29 and 30, or Tuesday and Wednesday, November 13 and 14.
Level II - Simplex: Leading Others to Solving Complex Problems will focus on building an understanding of the facilitator as process leader by building proficiency and flexibility in leading the process, providing hands-on practice facilitating actual problems solving teams, traditional meetings, and one-on-one conversations. Participants will gain an understanding of effective team structures, models of team development, and how to facilitate and support ongoing teams. Participants may register to attend the workshop on Wednesday and Thursday, October 31 and November 1, or Thursday and Friday, November 15 and 16. Level I – Simplex: Solving Complex Problems is a prerequisite for this workshop.
Workshops will meet from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be facilitated by Gene Recker, manager of education and entrepreneurship for USI at Innovation Pointe.
Both workshops can be combined into a productive four-day session. Many participants who want to gain facilitation skills find this four-day format especially effective.
Registration is $795 per level and includes workbooks and refreshments.
