"Arab Americans in the Age of Obama" is Berger Lecture topic

February 4, 2013

Dr. Steven Salaita, associate professor of English at Virginia Tech, will present the University of Southern Indiana's College of Liberal Arts Berger Lecture at 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, in Mitchell Auditorium in the Health Professions Center at USI.

Salaita, who is the author of six books and writes frequently about Arab Americans, Palestine, indigenous peoples, and decolonization, will discuss "Arab Americans in the Age of Obama." His most recent book is Modern Arab American Fiction: A Reader's Guide.

The Berger Lecture Series remembers and honors Sydney Berger, who was one of Evansville's most respected attorneys. He worked with local labor and civil rights organizations and taught at USI for nearly two decades. The College of Liberal Arts celebrates the values he cherished by having a speaker each year speak on the theme of civil rights or civil liberties.
