USI to host engineering summer camp for high school students

May 6, 2013

The Southwest Indiana STEM (SwISTEM) Resource Center in the University of Southern Indiana's Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education will host its first ever Engineering and Manufacturing Creativity Camp (EMC2) for high school students this summer.

The weeklong day camp, to be held July 15-19, will give 24 ninth- through 12th-graders a chance to learn how the things they use every day are designed and made through a series of exciting on-campus activities and field trips to local manufacturers.

EMC2 participants will engage in robotics, design, programming, and CAD. USI engineering faculty members will lead the activities, which will take place on campus in the Business and Engineering Center and in the brand new, state-of-the-art Applied Engineering Center.

EMC2 is a grant-funded program made possible through by the Alcoa Foundation, the University of Southern Indiana, and the SwISTEM Resource Center.

The cost of the camp is $50. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. EMC2 applications are being accepted for students in Posey, Vanderburgh, Warrick, Gibson, Dubois, Pike, and Spencer counties and can be completed online through Monday, May 20.
