University of Southern Indiana alumni, their families, and others are invited to don their kilts next summer in a trip to “Discover Scotland.” The trip, offered through the USI Alumni Association, is set for July 7-17, 2014, and registration is now open to the public.
“Discover Scotland” includes round-trip transatlantic air transportation to Edinburgh, where the group will spend two nights; one night’s first-class accommodations in Grantown; two nights each in Thurso, Ballachulish (near Loch Ness), and Glasgow. Daily buffet breakfast and other amenities are also included.
In Edinburgh, participants can tour Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyrood, the Queen’s official residence in Scotland and former home of Mary, Queen of Scots. From there, travelers will move on to St. Andrews and the Highlands region, where majestic views of Dunrobin Castle grace the shores of the North Sea, and the historic Viking stronghold of the Orkney Islands.
Other highlights include visits to Loch Ness, the Isle of Skye, Armadale Castle, and one of Scotland’s renowned whisky distilleries, as well as a stop in New Lanark, where Robert Owen, founder of New Harmony, Indiana, established his first Utopian community.
The “Discover Scotland” tour, booked through Collette Vacations and Lifestyle Tours, will depart from Evansville Regional Airport and from Lambert Saint Louis International Airport. Cost from Evansville is $4,909 per person, double occupancy, plus taxes through January 7, 2014. Proceeds from alumni travel fund scholarships for USI students.
Informational webinars on the trip will be available at 7 p.m. central time on October 7, 10, and 17. Register for the webinars from the following links:
