Rally against racism on campus Friday

April 22, 2014

The YWCA and the University of Southern Indiana's Center for Social Justice Education will hold a Stand Against Racism Rally from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, April 25, in the University Amphitheatre located outside the University Center on the USI campus.

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke will issue a special proclamation and attendees will take a pledge against racism. The event also will include musical performances, information booths, and remarks from USI students, elected officials, and representatives of the Evansville Human Relations Commission.

Marcus Wicker, assistant professor of English, will read poems about race and racism.

Other USI partners include the Multicultural Center, Gender Studies, Black Student Union, and Hispanic Student Union.

The event is free and open to the public. If it rains, the rally will be held in the Eagle's Nest in University Center West.

An open mic night previously scheduled for Thursday evening at the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana has been canceled.
