Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist presents Fall Lecture

October 2, 2014

Jed Horne, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who has reported on calamities ranging from wars in Somalia and El Salvador to Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, will present the Office of Student Development Programs Fall Lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 2, in Carter Hall in the University Center.

Horne's book, "Breach of Faith," was reviewed on the front cover of the Sunday New York Times book review and was declared "the best of the Katrina books" on NPR's "All Things Considered."  He will speak about his experience as a journalist covering Hurricane Katrina, as well as the themes of the Bonding through Books selection, "Zeitoun," a novel about post-Katrina New Orleans by Dave Eggers.

Horne will be introduced by Dr. Mary Hallock Morris, director of the University Core Curriculum. Morris, associate professor of political science, wrote her dissertation on the politics of wetland loss in Louisiana and has researched the public policy impacts of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

A question and answer session will follow the lecture, which is free and open to the public. The Fall Lecture is sponsored by the USI Foundation, Student Development Programs, and the University Core Curriculum.
