USI hosts "War Requiem" discussion

Event is part of Evansville Remembers: The Holocaust and World War II series

The University of Southern Indiana will host another Evansville Remembers: The Holocaust and World War II event coordinated by the Committee to Promote Respect in Schools (CYPRESS), on Wednesday, October 29.

The World Languages and Cultures Department within USI's College of Liberal Arts will host an illustrated discussion of Benjamin Britten's "War Requiem" from 7 to 8 p.m. in Kleymeyer Hall, located in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center.

Dr. James MacLeod and Dr. John Jordan of the University of Evansville will discuss World War I, World War II and Britten's life and work.

Alfred Savia, director of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, will discuss "The 'War Requiem' and its Performance." The philharmonic will perform Britten's "War Requiem" on November 15.

The event is free and open to the public. A reception will follow in the Lawrence Library, also located in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center.

The program also will be presented at 7 p.m. November 5 at the Smythe Lecture Hall located in the Schroeder School of Business Administration at the University of Evansville and at noon November 12 at the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana's Bower-Suhrheinrich Foundation Gallery as part of its Brown Bag Series.

Evansville Remembers is a multi-faceted educational and cultural program focusing on the Holocaust and World War II. CYPRESS's community partners include USI, UE, Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science, Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library, Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, Public Education Foundation, Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana and Temple Adath B'nai Israel.
