New Harmony Theatre 2015 season announced

May 26, 2015

New Harmony Theatre will open its 2015 season with Ernest Thompson's On Golden Pond, June 19-21 and 26-18, directed by Elliot Wasserman, producing artistic director and chair of Performing Arts at the University of Southern Indiana. The show tells the story of Norman Thayer and his wife Ethel, during a summer at their Maine cabin. The Thayers find themselves taking care of the 13-year-old son of their daughter's new boyfriend while the daughter and boyfriend leave for Europe. A play about growing old, marriage, reconciliation and love, On Golden Pond is a bittersweet comedy that reminds us all of what is most important in life. It stars Ron Himes, Nora Cole, Marie-Francoise Theodore, Joe Gately, Jason Pintar and local actor Nick Berry. The show will be staged in the historic Murphy Auditorium, 419 Tavern Street in New Harmony, Indiana.

The Full Monty, by Terrence McNally with music and lyrics by David Yazbek, plays July 10-12 and 16-19, and will be directed by Eric Altheide, New Harmony Theatre's resident associate director and assistant professor of theatre at USI. Based on the 1997 film, The Full Monty is the story of a group of unemployed factory workers united by their common plight. Each, for his own reasons, feels useless to his family and less than a man. In need of money, they decide to put on a strip tease, out-performing the Chippendale dancers. As they pursue their big plan, the show they rehearse comes to represent their defiant response to all that has been taken from them and becomes a means of restoring their self-respect. The Full Monty will take place in the new Performance Center located on the USI campus. The cast includes Corey James Wright, Colin Hartman, Peter McIntosh, Richard Jarrett, Netanel Bellaishe, Amanda Huxtable, Charlie Clark, Charlie Owens, Yvette Monique Clark, Melissa Carlile-Price, Michael Glavan, Jackey Good, Katie Merrick Finan, and Michael Indeglio with past and present Evansville residents Joshua Betz, Bridgette Hoover and Sue Schriber. This show contains adult language and nudity.

The season will come to a close with John Patrick Shanley's new play, Outside Mullingar, directed by Wasserman and running July 24-26 and July 31-August 2 in Murphy Auditorium. Having opened on Broadway in January of 2014, this is one of the first productions of the play to be seen outside of New York. Outside Mullingar is a dramatic comedy of great power, capturing the time in the lives of adults when they know they can no longer be their parents' children and must chart their own course in life. A simple story about love's capacity to heal our lives, Shanley writes unerringly of the human heart. Outside Mullingar stars Ron Crawford, Caitlin Clouthier and Jeff Williams.

Tickets are on sale now, and season tickets may be purchased through the first production. All evening performances start at 7:30 p.m. and matinees begin at 2 p.m. Individual adult tickets are $28 for On Golden Pond and Outside Mullingar and $35 for The Full Monty. Discounted tickets are available for students and seniors. Season tickets are $63 for adults, $57 for seniors (60 and over) and $51 for groups of 20 or more.
