New Harmony Writers Workshop opens events to the public

The University of Southern Indiana's New Harmony Writers Workshop will be held June 21-27 in New Harmony, Indiana. This weeklong summer retreat offers workshops in poetry and prose. Participants are provided opportunities to exchange ideas and focus on independent projects.

This annual retreat also offers events led by noteworthy authors that are free and open to the public. Faculty and fellows will offer readings, craft lectures and more.

Faculty for the 2015 New Harmony Writers Workshop include Stuart Dybek, Ross Gay and Ada Limón. Fellows include Rebecca Gayle Howell, Andrew Meredith, Robert James Russell and Phillip B. Williams.

"I'm honored to be a fellow at the New Harmony Writers Workshop at USI," said Robert James Russell, author of Don't Ask Me to Spell It Out. "[I'm] going to try to make folks re-think publishing and editing approaches."

Sunday, June 21

6:30 p.m. - Ross Gay reading, reception to follow (Bayou Conference Center) 

Monday, June 22

7 p.m. - Andrew Meredith and Robert James Russell reading, reception to follow (Sara's Harmony Way)

Tuesday, June 23

10 a.m. - Robert James Russell editing and publishing lecture (Barn Abbey)

1 p.m. - Stuart Dybek fiction craft lecture (Barn Abbey)

3 p.m. - Andrew Meredith nonfiction exercises (Barn Abbey)

7 p.m. - Phillip B. Williams and Rebecca Gayle Howell reading, reception to follow (Gallery of Contemporary Art)

Wednesday, June 24

4:30 p.m. - Rebecca Gayle Howell translation session (Barn Abbey)

7 p.m. - Ada Limón reading, reception to follow (Working Men's Institute)

Thursday, June 25

10 a.m. - Ross Gay nature writing session (Barn Abbey)

1 p.m.- Ada Limón poetry craft lecture (Barn Abbey)

3 p.m. - Phillip B. Williams poetry exercises (Barn Abbey)

6 p.m. - Stuart Dybek closing reading (Atheneum)
