Distinguished Scholar to present on psychology of hate

The 2016 University of Southern Indiana College of Liberal Arts Distinguished Scholar is Dr. Linda Woolf, professor of psychology and international human rights at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Woolf will present "The Psychology of Hate: From Intolerance to Terror" at 7 p.m. Monday, March 21 in Mitchell Auditorium in the Health Professions Center. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will be held immediately following the lecture. Woolf's research interests include the study of peace psychology, LGBT issues, Holocaust studies, and issues relating to genocide, terrorism and torture. She earned her doctorate in experimental psychology from St. Louis University, and was awarded the American Psychological Association's Presidential Citation in 2014 for her work on human rights.

In her lecture, Woolf will discuss the psychological factors behind hate, particularly the processes that fuel hate groups, domestic and international terror, and genocide. She will examine the alluring nature of hate and the sociocultural influences that drive individuals towards violence and discrimination.
