USI Technology Commercialization Academy continues to evolve in its fifth year

May 5, 2016

The 2016 University of Southern Indiana Technology Commercialization Academy (TCA) will kick off on May 9. TCA is an 11-week program allowing students to gain experience in technology commercialization and business plan creation. Sixteen students applied and were selected via a highly competitive process to help local firms launch new ventures or to launch new ventures themselves.

A continuously evolving program, TCA is applying the latest innovation tools and creative design methods to its commercialization methodology. TCA students utilize methods such as Design Sprint, as developed by Google, and Simplex as inspiration to move cutting edge technology from Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC Crane) and others federal laboratories to fruition with a mission to help regional companies grow.

While continuing its partnership with NSWC Crane, TCA is broadening its partnerships with local technology, engineering and manufacturing firms to assist in the development of already-prominent companies in the region.

"We're trying to have greater impact on the regional economy by helping existing companies to grow and create jobs," said Dr. Jason Salstrom, technology commercialization manager. "We're looking at creating jobs for existing companies."
