USI faculty members sharing their "Ideas Worth Spreading" on Saturday

September 30, 2016

Two members of the USI faculty will present their ideas to the world at the 2016 TEDxEvansville event on Saturday, October 1.

Dr. Edith Hardcastle, associate professor of biology, is giving a talk entitled "Envisioning the Home Landscape," which will address home landscaping and how different it could appear if native plants were allowed to remain and grow in the lawn environment.

Erin Gibson, instructor of journalism and student publications advisor, is presenting "Whoh! Wait. What?" Gibson's talk will discuss the ways in which we interact with news and with headlines and separating objective fact from sensationalism.

A free viewing party for TEDxEvansville sponsored by SGA will be held at 1 p.m. October 1 in Rice Library 0015. The event will also be livestreamed at TEDxEvansville.com. Recordings of the talks will be published to the TEDx Talks Youtube channel at a later date.

About TED:

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics - from science to business to global issues - in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.

About TEDx:

TEDx was created in the spirit of TED's mission, "ideas worth spreading." It supports independent organizers who want to create a TED-like event in their own community. TEDx events unleash fresh ideas from local communities. Close to 50,000 talks have been given at 10,000 events since the program launched in 2009. At a TEDx event, TED Talks videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connections. TEDxEvansville is not organized by TED Conferences. It is operated under a license from TED.
