Zombies take USI

October 7, 2016

Using your noggin to be the best is what the Brain Drain Zombie 5K race is all about. Hosted by the University of Southern Indiana Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education Student Advisory Board, this race helps raise funds to support the many Pott College organizations here on campus. The brain drain is a race with a twist. The event will take place Saturday October 22 at 10 a.m. throughout the campus of USI including the hiking trails and the disc golf course, and is open to the public. To participate in the race, the cost is 25 dollars per person to be a human or a zombie.

With the current trend being zombie phenomena this race takes 5k running to the next level of achievement. In this race it takes more than just physical skill to get away from the gruesome zombies, teamwork and strategy come in to play. To successfully complete this run you must make it over the finish line with at least one life flag. Students are encouraged to participate in this twist of zombie madness and come have fun.

Prior to the start of the race human participants will be given three flags. Throughout the length of the race, participants will encounter obstacle courses and zombie zones where the zombies will attempt to capture flags and eat the brains of their "victims". The key is to be strategic and still have fun while avoiding the horrifying zombies. Time in this race does not matter but being quick in this case will save humans before the undead claim them as one of their own.

Individuals can register as a human or a zombie for $25 a person before October 15. Registration for a group of five or more will be $20 a person before October 15. Late registration will take place October 16 through the 22. Register online at http://www.usi.edu/running/zombie-run
