The people you got to know in 2016

December 16, 2016

When I asked what kind of features people enjoyed reading the most, the answer was almost always "human interest stories." USI is propelled forward by the spirit and passion of the people within it. I will continue to find ways to continue Elevating Spirit@USI by showcasing the talent, intellect and humor of our faculty and staff. I look forward to hearing your ideas and sharing your inspiring stories. We, in University Communications, wish everyone a wonderful, restful winter break!

Here are some of the individuals spotlighted in USI Today that you got to know a little better in 2016:

Ashley Watson, Marketing Coordinator, Outreach and Engagement

"It's a good thing I sit 15 rows up at basketball games, because I can get a little too emotionally invested. It's also good that President Bennett sits in the front row and I sit much higher up, because sometimes I can be a little embarrassing as well." Read about Ashley…

Dan Craig, Associate Professor of Music, College of Liberal Arts

"I said 'everybody, stop right there - we're going to sing three pieces in the Irish language.' Immediately we had an audience of over 2,000 people." Read about Dan…

Barb Goodwin, Senior Administrative Assistant, Photography and Multimedia

"There really is not a typical day at USI. My role is to do whatever it takes to make "Disney" happen at USI." Read about Barb…

Andrew Lenhardt, Executive Director for Human Resources

"I took toy collecting rather seriously when I was younger. I was able to amass a fairly impressive collection of G.I. Joes, WWE figures and International Harvester toys." Read about Andrew…

Kerseclia Patterson, Academic Outreach Coordinator for Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center

"There's nothing I love more than to assess the specific needs of a community and build partnerships to address areas of disparities and/or deficits. Then, together, we can create programs and provide resources to equip the community with what they need to grow and learn to be self-sufficient." Read about Kerseclia…

Dr. Matt Hanka, Assistant Professor of Political Science and Director of the Master of Public Administration, College of Liberal Arts

"The legacy of our students and where they end up is what is most important. They are our future decision makers and we're grooming them to be thought leaders." Read about Matt…

Dr. Jason Fertig, Associate Professor of Management, Romain College of Business

"I like those old hair metal bands like Bon Jovi and Guns N' Roses, but also the old hip-hop like Wu-Tang Clan, Biggie Smalls and Sugarhill Gang." Read about Jason…

Nita Musich, Senior Administrative Associate in the President's Office

"I've decided that having a superpower would be way too much responsibility, so I'm going to forego any superpowers." Read about Nita…

Caylin Blockley, Assistant Director of Alumni and Volunteer Services

"I think that's why half of us work here, because we like to be in an area where learning is happening. Continuing education - we do it because we love it." Read about Caylin…

Virginia Thomas, Administrative Assistant in Art and Design

"It also doesn't hurt that in the morning I turn on the radio, and if there's something I want to dance to, I'm dancing. Sometimes I can't even get dressed because I'm like 'Oh, that's my jam!'" Read about Virginia…

Amy Ubelhor, Assistant Director of Creative in Creative and Print Services

"Slow things irritate me to no end. I can't stand slow computers. I can't stand standing in line for too long. I like people to be concise. The world would move at a brisk pace and everyone would speak in witty banter." Read about Amy…
