USI Theatre continues 2016-2017 Season with "Crumbs from the Table of Joy"

February 10, 2017

University of Southern Indiana Theatre will kick off the spring 2017 season with Crumbs from the Table of Joy by Lynne Nottage, with special guest director Ron Himes. Himes is the founder and producing director of The Black Rep and the Henry E. Hampton Jr. artist-in-residence at Washington University in St. Louis. The play runs February 16-19 in the USI Performance Center located next to University Center East on the USI campus.

Crumbs from the Table of Joy tells the story of an African-American family from the South, as seen through the eyes of 17-year-old Ernestine Crump, who finds herself, along with her widower father and younger sister, in Brooklyn in the 1950's. The unexpected arrival of her Aunt Lily, as well as the appearance of a new woman in her father's life, brings about unexpected changes and tests the family's resolve.

Himes will be joined by a design team including USI faculty members Paul Weimer as scenic designer and Eric Cope as lighting designer; USI staff member Kevin Gray as sound designer; and USI students John Merritt as costume designer and Ashleigh Dulik as stage manager. The cast includes USI students Jesmelia Williams as Ernestine Crump, Jada Alexia Hampton as Ermina Crump, Avery Howard as Godfrey Crump, Kenyana Trambles as Lily Ann Green, and Hannah Michelle as Gerte Schulte.

Tickets are $7 for USI students, $12 for adults, $10 for USI employees, seniors (60+) and non-USI students. Shows start at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. for the Sunday matinee.
