Promoting an event?
Want to build an audience for a speaker?
Want to announce an award you, your department, or your students earned, or a state or national office you hold?
Need content for a Web page?
The staff of News and Information Services, a unit of the Office of Advancement, is available to help you create and execute a communications plan to suit your needs. We can build the “buzz” or attention you want.
A communications plan could include news releases, Web features, photos, a story in University Notes or USI Magazine, or a printed piece such as a brochure or a newsletter.
Contact us in advance so that we can help you execute a strategic public relations effort: Six months out for a full promotional campaign; three months for brochures and photos; and two weeks out for news releases.
Staff members of News and Information Services (NIS):
- Write and edit USI Magazine and newsletters for departments and colleges; the University Notes online newsletter; news articles for the News and Information Services and departmental Web sites, events for the comprehensive campus calendar, and Web features.
- Prepare and distribute news releases conveying news about the activities and accomplishments of USI students, faculty, and staff to print, broadcast, and Web media; work daily with print, electronic, and broadcast media outlets, to publicize University programs, applied research, initiatives, events, and athletic news.
- Serve as the principal contact point for news reporters preparing stories involving the University; serve as the contact for reporters looking for experts in a given field; serve as the contact for community groups seeking speakers.
- Plan publicity and public information programs; write and edit copy for brochures and other publications, and for the Web.
- Maintain a photo library of events and USI people; schedule photography in studio or on location, depending on individual needs.
