Student trustee applications are being accepted through April 1

A search is underway for a new student trustee to serve as the student representative on the USI Board of Trustees. Walter Jermakowicz III, the current student trustee, will end his two-year term on July 1, 2003.

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the University and the student trustee serves as a full voting member who is expected to bring both the interests of students to Board discussions and relate his or her perspective to issues dealing with the University community.

To be selected, a student must

• be a full-time student in good standing;
• have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5;
• be able to commit to a two-year term on the Board;
• be a United States citizen and resident of Indiana;
• have completed two semesters at USI by the time of appointment (July 1, 2003).

To be considered for an interview, students must submit the following items to the Dean of Students Office, UC 007, by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2003:

• a completed application;
• an essay addressing why he or she is interested in the position and what he or she can contribute to the Board of Trustees (limit to 300 words);
• three letters of recommendation (Two letters of recommendation must be submitted by members of the USI community, one of which must be from a faculty member from whom the student has taken a class. The third letter must be written by a personal reference who is not connected to the University.);
• an activities resumé as outlined in the application packet.

Applications are available at the following locations:

• Student Government Office (UC 013 C, D)
• Dean of Students Office (UC 007)
• University Center Information Desk
• The deans of each academic school

For information about the application process, call Britney Gentry, chair, Student Trustee Search Committee, in the Student Government Office at 812/464-1873 or e-mail sga@usi.edu.
