Effects of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome to be discussed March 19 at USI
|
Students in the USI School of Nursing and Health Professions are partnering with Evansville Association of Retarded Citizens (EARC) to present a program on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and the necessary precautions to prevent FAS at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19 in Carter Hall in the University Center at the University of Southern Indiana. The program is one of the Women’s History Month activities sponsored by the USI Multicultural Center and American Association of University Women. USI nursing students and staff of EARC, with the help of a grant from the Junior League of Evansville, will explain how just one drink consumed during pregnancy can cause a child to be born with FAS. They’ll present FAS as a serious societal problem, causing mental, physical, and emotional disabilities in thousands of children each year; and show how it is preventable. The program is free and open to the public. Another Women’s History Month program scheduled for March at USI is a workshop for women and minorities who are interested in nontraditional career fields. The workshop will begin at noon on Thursday, March 20 in HP 1081. Students who are interested in careers in engineering, math, and science will meet professionals already in these fields, and learn the steps they took to get into the careers. Space is limited and interested students can sign up for the workshop in Office of Career Services and Placement in the University Center. |
