USI center offering student alcohol screening

University of Southern Indiana will observe National Alcohol Screening Day by providing USI students with an opportunity to complete a brief written screening test, receive educational information, or talk one-on-one with a health professional. The free event April 10 will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the USI Counseling Center. Alcohol is a significant problem on college campuses. According to the Counseling Center: · 1,400 college students between the ages of 18 and 24 die each year from unintentional alcohol-related injuries, including motor vehicle crashes. · 500,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are unintentionally injured while under the influence of alcohol. · More than 600,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted by another student who has been drinking. · More than 70,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are victims of alcohol-related sexual assault or date rape. · 400,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 had unprotected sex, and more than 100,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 report having been too intoxicated to know if they consented to having sex.
