University and church choirs combine to honor our fallen soldiers in Iraq
|
The USI Chamber Choir and Orchestra and Old North United Methodist Church Choir, both directed by Daniel R. Craig, and the Bethlehem United Church of Christ Chancel Choir, directed by John Schmitt, will combine forces to present Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem Op. 48, at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, at Old North United Methodist Church, 4201 Stringtown Road, Evansville. This concert is given in memory and honor of the fallen soldiers from the current war in Iraq. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted to defray the cost of the performance. This will be the first time that these three Evansville choirs have combined to perform such a work. Craig said, “This setting of the Requiem text is one of the most beautiful and comforting works ever attempted. The depth of harmony presented as well as the sensitivity to the text undoubtedly shows the pleasure that Fauré took in writing the piece. It is an excellent work to present in memory of our fallen soldiers.” Questions from media may be directed to Mr. Craig at the following contact numbers.
