33rd annual University of Southern Indiana Juried Student Art Exhibition opens April 13
|
The 33rd annual USI Juried Student Art Exhibition will be held in the University Conference Center Monday, April 14 through Sunday, April 20, 2003. The exhibit will open with a reception for the artists on Sunday, April 13, from 2 to 4 p.m., with the awards ceremony held at 3 p.m. The exhibit is a presentation of selected student artworks, as chosen by an independent judge who is an expert in the field of art. The judge is selected by the Art Department faculty for his/her expertise and understanding of undergraduate art work. An independent juror is brought in to assure objective selection of art works and awards, and to provide an educational experience for students in preparation for professional careers in art. Juried exhibitions are standard procedure in group art shows at universities, museums, and art associations. This year’s juror is Dick Hay, professor of Art at Indiana State University and recent recipient of the Distinguished Educator Award from the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts. An internationally recognized artist, Hay has exhibited in more than 290 exhibitions and his sculptures are in museums and private collections worldwide. Hay will give a public lecture, “A Lifetime of Clay” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 10 in Health Professions Center, Rm. 1008. It is free and open to the public. In addition to selecting the best of the student work submitted for the exhibition, Hay will award over $15,000 in scholarships, merit awards, and purchase awards. Community citizens, alumni, businesses, and corporations donate the funds for these honors. The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily throughout the show. |
