USI symposium to consider religion, environment

Area theologians will join University of Southern Indiana faculty in a symposium on religion and the environment at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Kleymeyer Hall in the Liberal Arts Center. The public is invited to attend the free program. The speakers will include: · Sensei Norman Beck – head martial arts instructor, Southern Indiana Butokukai; teacher of Taoism and the history of Asian philosophies; former ecology/conservation director for the Buffalo Trace Council Boy Scouts · Dr. Paul Doss – USI associate professor of geology; former chief geologist at Yellowstone National Park · Rabbi Barry Friedman – Temple Adath B’Nai Israel in Evansville · The Rev. Helen “Penny” Greer – interim pastor, St. Lucas United Church of Christ in Evansville; ordained UCC minister; USI geology student · Dr. Dianne Oliver - University of Evansville assistant professor of religion; ordained Baptist minister. · Dr. Jeff Seyler - USI associate professor of chemistry; president of Ohio Valley Common Ground, a local environmental group Dr. Stephen Sullivan, USI associate professor of philosophy, organized the symposium that relates to the course Global Change: Science and Ethics that he is team-teaching with Dr. Eric McCloud, USI associate professor of biology.
