Civil liberties focus of USI faculty/student debate
|
“Civil Liberties since 9/11,” a University of Southern Indiana faculty/student debate, will be presented at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 11, in Kleymeyer Hall in the Liberal Arts Center. The speakers will include Dr. Charles Barber, professor of political science; Dr. Leigh Anne Howard, assistant professor of communications; John McGarrah, political science major; and Lisa Peerman, interpersonal/organizational communication major. The faculty will take the affirmative side in the debate: “Civil Liberties Have Been Infringed Upon and the Government Should Act More Forcefully to Protect Civil Liberties.” The students will debate the negative side in support of security overriding civil liberties. The debate emerged from the class Argumentation and Public Debate, which is taught by Julie Allee, instructor in communications. The event is free and open to the public.
