Communication expert to lecture Wednesdayl

Dr. Judy C. Pearson, a nationally known educator, author, and expert on communication, will present the lecture, “Building Community through Communication” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16 in Kleymeyer Hall of the Liberal Arts Center. This presentation is part of the Liberal Arts Speaker series. Dr. Pearson will define community, talk about the history of community and communication, and discuss how to build community. Within her talk, she will share some narratives of people who inspire us to build community. Dr. Pearson is professor of communication, director of the doctoral program, and associate dean of the college of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at North Dakota State University. Before her work at NDSU, Pearson was director of the Northern Virginia Center, associate dean of the Graduate School, and professor of human development and communication at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Her research has focused on family and gender communication. Dr. Pearson has published nearly 50 articles and has written 23 books. She brought her scholarship to the public on national television on CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, and CNN, appearing on such shows as CBS This Morning, The Jenny Jones Show, and The Sally Jesse Raphael Show. This scholarship also has been discussed in over 250 newspapers and several magazines. The lecture at USI is free and open to the public. |
