|
Continuing education credits are available for a wide range of professions from a national teleconference about coping with public tragedy. The 10th annual Living With Grief teleconference will be offered at the University of Southern Indiana from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30 in Carter Hall of the University Center. Licensed social workers, registered nurses, funeral directors, and others can earn credit for attendance. USI Division of Extended Services and the Department of Social Work, in cooperation with the Evansville Chapter of The Compassionate Friends and VNA Hospice, will host the teleconference “Living with Grief: Coping with Public Tragedy.” The live-via-satellite, televised broadcast will look at factors that define a public tragedy and offer insight and advice to organizations and professionals as they support their communities and help those coping with loss. The effects of tragedies such as 9-11, Hurricane Andrew, Oklahoma City, and other significant national events will be examined. The teleconference will be moderated by Cokie Roberts of ABC News. The local panel will be moderated by Dr. Michelle Blake, associate professor of social work at USI and will feature Mary Beth Weber, USI staff counselor, who worked in New York at Ground Zero in the days following September 11. Others on the panel are Darren Sroufe, chaplain, Evansville Police Department, Don Simpson, Alexander North Funeral Chapel, and Lee Turpen, CCEMTP, Clinical/Education Services coordinator, Eastern Region American Medical Response Ambulance Services. Simpson and Sroufe also were at Ground Zero. There is a $25 recording charge for those receiving continuing education credits. Others may attend at no charge, but reservations are required.
