Activist to discuss ending sexist violence

The University of Southern Indiana Department of Philosophy and Political Science will present “Men’s Work: Men Working to End Sexist Violence,” a lecture and discussion with Rus Ervin Funk, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in Kleymeyer Hall in the Liberal Arts Center. A longtime profeminist activist and community organizer, Funk is the author of Stopping Rape: A Challenge for Men, the first book written by a man, for men, about stopping sexual violence. He also is the founder of Men for Gender Justice and cofounder of several organizations including DC Men Against Rape, the Baltimore Alliance Against Child Sexual Abuse, and the Nonviolence Trainers Collective. Funk recently moved from Washington, D.C., to Louisville, Ky., where he launched and is coordinating a community response to teen and young adult dating violence. He holds an M.S.W. from Howard University and is a Ph.D. candidate at National Catholic School of Social Service. The program is free and open to the public.
