USI students receive intramural awards

Students at the University of Southern Indiana received awards at the 2002-2003 Intramural Recreational Sports (IRS) Awards Banquet held on campus in May.

A team trophy and sweatshirts were awarded to the organization that scored the most supremacy points in the All Campus Screaming Eagle Division. The points are earned throughout the year. The All Campus Award is presented in the men’s, women’s, and co-ed categories.

The group awards are as follows:

The Keg Killers, Corey Macke, captain, received the Men’s All Campus Champion Award with 1,434 points.

The Coral Reefer Chix, captains Katt Shannon, Dawn Hay, and Katie Parker, received the Women’s All Campus Champion Award with 1,625 points.

The Coral Reefers, Aaron Poole, Katt Shannon, Dawn Hay, and Katie Parker, captains, received the Co-Ed All Campus Champion Award with 1,005 points.

Special recognition is given to the All Campus Screaming Eagle Team that displayed good sportsmanship, team participation, cooperation, fair play, and enthusiasm in the IRS Program. The Team Spirit/Sponsorship Award is voted on by the All Campus Screaming Eagle captains and IRS staff.

This year’s Men’s Team Spirit/Sportsmanship award went to the Dick Weber All-Stars, Justin Dodd, captain. The Women’s Team Spirit/Sportsmanship was awarded to the Coconut Cowgirls, Ashley Bear, captain. The Co-Ed Team Spirit/Sportsmanship award went to the Coconut Cowboys, Chad Humm, captain.

The Special Events Participation Award is given to the team that accumulates the most participation points throughout the year in the Special Events programs and activities.

The Special Events Participation Award recipient was the Coral Reefer Chix, Dawn Hay, Katt Shannon, and Katie Parker, captains.

The Outstanding new Team Award is based on leadership, enthusiasm, positive attitude and achieving success as a new team in the IRS Program.

The Outstanding New Men’s Team was awarded to the Keg Killers, Cory Macke, captain. The Outstanding New Women’s Team award went to the Pink Cheetahs, Kristy Hickey, captain. The Outstanding New Co-Ed Award was given to the Coral Reefers, Aaron Poole, Katt Shannon, Dawn Hay, and Katie Parker, captains.

The Most Improved Team Award is based on leadership, enthusiasm, positive attitude and showing the most improvement throughout the year in the IRS Program.

The Most Improved Men’s Team Award went to Kappa Alpha Order, Adam Sprecher, captain. The Most Improved Women’s Team Award was presented to the Funkey Monkeys, Kristy Scott, captain.

Outstanding Fraternity/Sorority Team Award is presented to the team that adds the most success to the IRS Program through their leadership skills and attitude.

The Outstanding Fraternity Team is Lambda Chi, Dan Rardin, captain. The Outstanding Sorority Team is Delta Zeta, April Hecker, captain.

The Most Supportive/Cooperative Team Award is given to the team that gives the most support to not only their team, but to others as well.

The Most Supportive/Cooperative Team Award was presented to the Pink Cheetahs, Kristy Hickey, captain.

The individual awards are as follows:

The Sports Official of the Year is based on consistency, enthusiasm, leadership, good positioning and mechanics, knowledge of the rules, number of sorts and contests officiated, training received, dependability, and reliability. The recipient is selected by the IRS staff and All Campus Screaming Eagle captains.

The Male Official of the Year is Andy Broo and the Female Official of the Year is Randi Raff.

The All Campus Screaming Eagle Athlete of the Year is voted on by the All Campus Screaming Eagle captains and the IRS staff following each All Campus event. Supremacy points are tallied and the award is presented to the outstanding male, female, and co-ed male and female athlete based on participation, attitude, spirit of fair play, enthusiasm, loyalty, sportsmanship, athletic ability, and representation of the overall IRS Program.

The All Campus Male Athlete of the Year is Cory Macke, Keg Killers. The All Campus Female Athlete is Erica Leubbehuessen, Pink Cheetahs. The Male Co-Ed Athlete of the Year is Curtis Ralston, Coral Reefers. The Female Co-Ed Athlete of the Year is Angie Zenthoefer, Coral Reefer Chix.

The All Campus Screaming Eagle Captain of the Year is presented to the captain that shows outstanding leadership skills and loyalty to their team and the IRS Program.

The All Campus Captain of the Year Award was presented to Aaron Poole, Coral Reefers.

The Supervisor of the Year Award is based on leadership, knowledge of the IRS Program, dependability, reliability, organizational skills, planning ability, initiative, relationship with staff and participants, diplomacy and tact, and overall representation of the IRS Program.

The Supervisor of the Year Award went to Angie Krininger.

The Eagle Spirit Award is presented to one male, female, co-ed, or IRS staff representative for their outstanding positive attitude, spirit, and sportsmanship throughout the academic year. The award is voted on by the All Campus Screaming Eagle captains and the IRS staff.

The Eagle Spirit Award was given to Dawn Hay.

The Outdoor Adventurer of the Year Award is given to an IRS participant who shows outstanding outdoor leadership skills and enthusiasm.

The Outdoor Adventurer of the Year is Amanda Rickenbaugh.

The Graduating Seniors Awards went to Katt Shannon, Travis Strange, Jan Johnson, and Erica Leubbehuesen.

The Director Awards are as follows:

The Appreciation Award recipient was Don Fleming, Grounds Center.

The Spirit Award went to Dr. Robert Parrent, vice president for Student Affairs.

The Honorary IRS Award was given to Jeanie Kuebler, Wellness Office.

The University Support Award was given to Student Development and the Activities Programming Board.

The Flying Eagle Award was presented to Integra Bank.

The Volunteer Award went to Bob Ruble, vice president for Business Affairs.

The Appreciation Award went to the Scheduling Office.

The Individual Support Award recipient was Don Fleming, Grounds Center.
