Course eases stress of caregiving
|
More families are facing difficult choices as their loved ones grow older, and the stress of caring for an aging relative can become an issue in the caregiver’s personal and/or professional life. Assessing the situation and advance planning can ease the burden of crisis decision-making. The workshop, “Someone’s Loved One – Maybe Yours,” will prepare participants to deal with the anxiety and demands of caregivers’ roles. Learn strategies for balancing work, family, and caregiving; explore in-home and long-term care options and decisions; discover ways to meet their needs and yours; and identify helpful resources to reduce tension and guilt. Dr. Iris Phillips, USI assistant professor of social work, will be the instructor. The workshop is designed for social workers but is applicable to anyone caring for aging relatives. “Someone’s Loved One – Maybe Yours” will be presented from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. May 22 in Room 201 of the University Center on the University of Southern Indiana campus. Continuing education credit is available. The registration fee is $40. For information or registration, call USI Extended Services, 812/464-1989 or 800/467-8600. |
