SWIRDC hosting forum for at-risk youth service providers
|
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - On Wednesday, July 9, the region will come together for one purpose, at-risk youth. From 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Southwestern Indiana Regional Development Commission will host a free forum for at-risk youth service providers in Gibson, Posey, Warrick, and Vanderburgh counties. The event will be held at University of Southern Indiana in the University Center’s Carter Hall. Participating service providers will have an opportunity to gather information from each county, determine where gaps in the delivery of services to at-risk youth exist, and consider ways to work together to close those gaps through funding and other resources. Karen Freeman-Wilson, former Indiana attorney general, will be the keynote speaker. Andrew Cullen, field representative for Sen. Evan Bayh, will present a federal update, and Steven King with the Governor’s Commission on Drug-Free Indiana will provide a state update. Representatives of agencies in Gibson, Posey, Warrick, and Vanderburgh counties also will share a variety of best practices, and USI’s Department of Social Work will facilitate focus groups. Reservations for the free forum may be made by calling 812/465-7067, faxing 812/465-7061, or e-mailing jaweatherh@usi.edu. The reservation deadline is Thursday, July 3. Lunch will be provided. The event is made possible by a grant from Vectren Foundation. The Southwestern Indiana Regional Development Commission was formed to give the four counties in southwestern Indiana a chance to speak with one voice on initiatives that can have a lasting, positive impact for the future. The Commission is an affiliate of USI. |
