Theatre for children

Lincoln Amphitheatre will offer two Kids Days this summer along with two performances of the Theatre for Young Audiences production of Wiley and the Hairy Man. Kids Days are special events at Lincoln Amphitheatre designed to introduce children to the world of theatre. Theatre for Young Audiences offers a production for family, school-age group, and community audiences. On Saturday, July 19 and Saturday, August 9 at 2 p.m. Wiley and the Hairy Man by Susan Zeder will be presented on stage at Lincoln Amphitheatre. Children will be invited to sit on the completely covered stage to watch the show. Wiley is an Alabama folktale from the swamps that teaches self-confidence and overcoming fears as Wiley fights his deepest fear, the evil Hairy Man. Lincoln Amphitheatre summer company member William Waldrop will portray Wiley. Waldrop also plays Aaron Grigsby in Young Abe Lincoln and serves as assistant music director. Other company members in the Wiley cast include La La Nunnally, Ben McMahon, Todd Masterson, Larry Whitfield, Suzanna Ancell, Eric Doades, and Jeannine Gamble. Young Abe Lincoln Kids Day will be held on Thursday, July 24. A special 90-minute performance of the musical depicting Lincoln’s formative years in Indiana will begin at 1 p.m. Special activities to teach young people about Lincoln, southern Indiana heritage, and theatre will begin at 10:30 a.m. Activities include a scavenger hunt/creek peek session with the Lincoln State Park naturalists, theatre games, old time photos, a visit to Buffalo Run Farm, or a pre-show chat with President Lincoln. There also will be a Kids Day for Wiley and the Hairy Man on Wednesday, July 30. Activities include a scavenger hunt/creek peak, theatre games, rhythm and rhyme music session, or a visit to Buffalo Run Farm. These activities also teach young people about southern Indiana heritage, theatre, and music and will begin at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served at 12:10 p.m. for both Kids Days. It includes a hot dog or hamburger, chips, cookie, and drink. Lunches must be reserved 48 hours before the event. The meal is $4 per person. Activity costs vary from $1 to $3 per person. Ticket prices for Wiley and the Hairy Man for both regular performances and Kids Day are $5 per person. Ticket prices for the Young Abe Lincoln performance on Kids Day July 24 are $6 per person.
