After an eight-year hiatus, New Harmony Theatre will bring back a Tennessee Williams work, The Eccentricities of a Nightingale, opening July 11 and running Thursday through Sunday until July 27.

The Eccentricities of a Nightingale is one of Williams’ most beautiful plays and a personal favorite of the author. This show, featuring the great character of Alma, is a romantic drama about longing and forsaken dreams. Because of New Harmony Theatre’s outstanding reputation as a regional theatre it received special permission from the Williams estate to produce this enchanting show.

Jenn Thompson will return for her second season at NHT in the leading role of Alma. Thompson has been on Broadway, in regional theatres, and on television and film in shows such as Little Darlings, Third Watch, and Ed.

Donna Wandrey will portray Mrs. Buchanan. Wandrey’s credits include the daytime serials As the World Turns, Another World, Edge of the Night, Ryan’s Hope, and Dark Shadows where she played Roxanne Drew. She also has appeared in Broadway and Off-Broadway productions.

Todd Gearhart will make his first appearance on the NHT stage as Alma’s love interest. Gearhart has been on stage in New York and regional theatres. He also has appeared on television and film.

Alice Cannon and Tom Markus will portray Alma’s parents. Cannon received the Helen Hayes Award for her role in James Joyce’s The Dead and has many Broadway and Off-Broadway credits. Markus returns for his third season at NHT. He was seen in The Sunshine Boys and The Philadelphia Story in past seasons at NHT. Rhonda Dodd will make her first appearance on the NHT stage as Ms. Bassett. Dodd also has New York and film credits.

Rounding out the cast of Eccentricities are several local actors. Kathy Ewing will make her fourth appearance at New Harmony Theatre. Ewing has appeared in many local stage productions. She also has o appeared on television in The Guiding Light, Unsolved Mysteries, and Christy (with Tyne Daly). Steve Small enters his twelfth season at NHT. Small has been seen at the Civic Theatre of Evansville, Shanklin Theatre at the University of Evansville, and University of Southern Indiana theatre.

Jonathon Stutzman and Sean Spann are both students from the University of Evansville. Stutzman will play the role of the traveling salesman and Spann will play Roger Doremus. The children in the show will be portrayed by local young actors Jillian Lindauer and Noah Katz. Lindauer is from New Harmony and attends New Harmony School. She is a member of the University of Evansville Choir and has several local credits. Katz has been seen at the Henderson Fine Arts Center and The Centre in Evansville.

The Eccentricities of a Nightingale will continue on stage through July 27. Performances are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Single ticket prices are $20, adults; $18, seniors/students; $17, groups of 20 or more. All shows are performed at Murphy Auditorium, New Harmony, Indiana. For more information or to order tickets call 1-877/NHT-SHOW or visit www.newharmonytheatre.com.
