Lincoln Amphitheatre chosen as Indiana's Best Live Theater
|
As part of the second Reader’s Choice Awards in the Electric Consumer publication, Lincoln Amphitheatre has been chosen as Indiana’s Best Live Theater in their “Best of Indiana” poll (tied with the Derby Dinner Playhouse in Clarksville). M. Christopher Boyer, managing director, Southern Indiana Theatres, said, "This award is particularly significant to all of us because it is the result of a vote by people from all over Indiana. Our productions are designed and directed to celebrate Indiana's heritage and the values we share with cultures from around our great nation and the world. We are delighted that our fellow Hoosiers have responded so positively to what we do. And we think it's especially significant that the polling happened in March and April, when the voters wouldn't have seen anything at the Amphitheatre since the previous August. Obviously, our productions are memorable for our audiences.” Lincoln Amphitheatre, the only completely covered amphitheatre in the United States, is located in Lincoln State Park in Spencer County. Musicals presented are produced by the University of Southern Indiana in cooperation with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. This season includes the musicals Young Abe Lincoln and Fiddler on the Roof. Young Abe Lincoln depicts the story of Abraham Lincoln’s youth. The natural setting of the amphitheatre provides the backdrop for key events of the 16th president’s early life. Fiddler on the Roof tells the story of Tevye, a humble milkman, who lives with his wife and daughters in a poor Jewish village in Russia in the 19th century. Great music, powerful sentiment, dance, and laughs make this musical enjoyable for the entire family. Lincoln Amphitheatre has extended the Sunday Family Night ticket price of $8 per person to apply to all performances from Wednesday, August 6 to Saturday, August 16. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. The box office can be reached at 800/264-4ABE. Lincoln Amphitheatre is supported by the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana, the Indiana Arts Commission, with funding from the State of Indiana and the National Endowment for the Arts. Electric Consumer is the monthly publication of Indiana’s electric cooperatives.
