Who: Vision 2000, TechPoint, University of Southern Indiana, and Southwestern Indiana Regional Development Commission
What: 2003 Evansville Tech Summit
When: 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, August 28
Where: Mitchell Auditorium, USI Health Professions Center
How: Free and open to the public
Why: An open forum to discuss regional technology initiatives, help for existing companies that want to embrace technology, efforts to attract new technology-based companies to the region, and partnership efforts to maximize resources.

Five speakers will present views at the summit.

State Representative Brian Hasler, chair of the Indiana House Committee on Technology, will offer his perspective on how Indiana is positioning itself to grow technology initiatives and attract more technology-related companies.

Other speakers will be Jim Wheeler, executive vice president of TechPoint; Mark Shublak of Ice Miller; Evansville Mayor Russell Lloyd Jr., and Ken Robinson, executive director of Vision 2000.

TechPoint is the leading change agent for Indiana’s technology industry. Their programs, member services, and advocacy and economic development efforts help drive the growth, development and retention of the state’s technology clusters: advanced manufacturing, distribution and logistics, health and life sciences, and information technology.

The summit will offer an opportunity to discuss regional technology initiatives and provide help to companies who want to embrace technology. It will cover how to attract new technology-based companies to the region. The discussion will identify obstacles to development, how to partner to maximize resources, and other technology-related issues and concerns.
