USI welcomes new faculty

Betty J. Bleichroth has accepted the position of instructor of mathematics at University of Southern Indiana. The Henderson resident previously worked as director of Secondary Education for the Henderson County School District and as a vice principal and mathematics teacher at Henderson County High School. She holds a B.A. and an M.A. from University of Evansville and earned an associate degree in information systems at Ivy Tech State College in 2003. Dr. Adrian Gentle, Evansville, has accepted the position of assistant professor of mathematics at University of Southern Indiana. A native of Melbourne, Australia, he recently lived in Los Alamos, New Mexico, where he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Los Alamos National Laboratory. He also previously worked as a research assistant at Monash University in Australia, where he earned a Ph.D. in 2000 and a B.Sc. with honors. He is the recipient of a Director-funded Postdoctoral Fellowship at Los Alamos and the Sir James McNeill Postgraduate Scholarship. Gentle’s memberships include the American Mathematical Society, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the International Society on General Relativity and Gravitation. Dr. Tamara L. Hunt, Evansville, has accepted the position of associate professor and chair of the History Department at University of Southern Indiana. An Illinois native, she previously worked as an associate professor of history at Loyola Marymount University and on the faculty at University of Louisville. She holds a Ph.D. from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and published the book, Defining John Bull: Caricature and National Identity in Late Georgian England (Ashgate Publishing 2003). She also was co-editor of Women and the Colonial Gaze (Palgrave 2002), a 1996-97 National Endowment for the Humanities College Fellow, and the 1996 Woman of the Year at Loyola Marymount. She is a member of the North American Conference on British Studies; the American Historical Association; and the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading, and Publishing. Dr. Anton Maria, Evansville, has accepted the position of assistant professor of geology at University of Southern Indiana. Formerly of Arlington, Va., he previously worked as a research fellow at the Smithsonian Institute, and as a post-doctoral researcher at University of Rhode Island, Graduate School of Oceanography. He earned a Ph.D. in 2000 from University of Rhode Island, where he also earned an M.S. He holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College and is a member of the Geological Society of America and the American Geophysical Union. Marilyn Ostendorf has accepted the position of instructor in nursing at University of Southern Indiana. The Newburgh resident previously worked as a staff nurse in the Cardiovascular ICU at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She holds a B.S.N. and an M.S.N. from University of Evansville. |
