USI film series beginning November 7
|
University of Southern Indiana’s “Friday Night in the Forum” film series will open November 7 with Four Way Stop, written and directed by Doyle Dean, USI adjunct instructor in art. Filmed on location in Homer, Mich., Four Way Stop tells the tale of a fatal car accident from four different perspectives. Fate, hope, joy, and love dominate Dean’s slice-of-life drama, which takes place during a small-town Fourth of July celebration. The director will answer audience questions following the screening. Sponsored by the School of Liberal Arts, "Friday Night in the Forum" brings films to the big screen in original widescreen formats and in their original languages with subtitles. Each free film will be shown at 7:30 p.m. in USI's Forum I in the Wright Administration Building with an informal discussion to follow. The schedule also includes: November 14 - Naqoyqatsi (2002 USA) Directed by Godfrey Reggio. The third in the “qatsi” documentary trilogy, Naqoyqatsi uses a non-narrative, image-driven style to explore the technological revolution. From the Hopi word meaning “life as war,” Naqoyqatsi uses a dark and brooding style to show how our lives have morphed from a natural to a technologically-created state of being. November 21 - Time Code (2000 USA) Directed by Mike Figgis. Starring Stellan Skarsgard, Salma Hayek, Holly Hunter, Saffron Burrows. An innovative film shot in real-time and in one continuous take, Time Code is a timely reference to our voyeuristic approach to entertainment. Beyond its unusual style, Time Code offers an intriguing plot involving four inter-related parallel stories, all taking place on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. December 5 - Bowling for Columbine (2002 USA) Directed by Michael Moore. Documentary feature. Using the tragedy at Columbine High School as a springboard, Michael Moore again goes behind the camera using his trademark “schlumpy-yet thought-provoking style” to explore the security, fear, and violence that go hand-in-hand with gun culture in America. |
