Industry leader speaking at USI

The chairman, president, and CEO of Red Spot Paint and Varnish Co. Inc. will present the University of Southern Indiana School of Business Executive-in-Residence Program Wednesday, November 19. Charles D. Storms will deliver "Surviving 100 Years through Innovation, Resiliency, and Vision" in two free public forums in the University Center's Carter Hall. The first forum will begin at 9 a.m. and the second at 11 a.m. Red Spot, which is celebrating 100 years of business in 2003, is recognized as the leader in production of high performance coatings for automotive plastics in the domestic and international market. The company’s corporate offices are located at 1107 E. Louisiana St. in Evansville. Storms, the great-grandson of Harry Doakes Bourland, the company’s founder, joined Red Spot in 1966 as manager of the Lacquer Research Department. He then held a variety of positions within the company before assuming the role of chairman, president, and CEO in 1993. He also serves on the boards of directors of Old National Bank, Old National Bancorp, Karges Furniture Co. Inc., and Uniseal. A director of the National Paint and Coatings Association, he has been active with the Society of Plastics Engineers, Society of Manufacturing Engineering/Association for Finishing Processes, and the Society of Vacuum Coaters. A two-time winner of the Tri-State Section Society of Plastics Engineers Annual Engineering Achievement Award, he also received the Society of the Plastics Industry Structural Foam Conference Best Paper Award and was the plenary speaker for the International Coatings for Plastics Symposium. Storms has presented numerous papers and articles at conferences and seminars, and is involved with several community non-profit organizations. He holds an M.B.A. from University of Michigan and a B.S. in business administration from Indiana University.
