Adriana M. Brodsky, Evansville, has accepted the position of assistant professor of history at University of Southern Indiana. Formerly a resident of Columbus, Ohio, she previously worked as an instructor at Ohio State University-Columbus and Duke University, where she is a doctoral candidate and will defend her dissertation in December. She also taught at the Profesorado Nacional, the national teachers’ training institution in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she completed her undergraduate studies and graduated as a Nationally Certified Teacher of English as a Foreign Language. She is the recipient of a Mauricio Amado Foundation Research Fund grant award and an Association of Jewish Studies post-doctoral fellowship, which she declined. Brodsky is a member of the American Historical Association, Council of Latin American History, Latin American Studies Association, and the Association of Jewish Studies.


Dr. Gael L. Cooper, Newburgh, has accepted the position of professor of public relations at University of Southern Indiana. Formerly of Bethany, W.Va., he previously worked as a professor of communication at Bethany College, director of Pubic Relations and professor of journalism at Culver-Stockton College, assistant professor of journalism at Indiana University-Bloomington, assistant professor of communication at Texas A&M University, and as a copy editor and comment page editor at The Courier Journal and Louisville Times. He holds a Ph.D. in journalism and an M.A. in journalism from University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism and a B.A. in English from Culver-Stockton College. A member of the Public Relations Society of America and the Society of Professional Journalists, his recent honors include honorable mention in the National Association of Broadcasters Faculty Competition.


Dr. Edith Hardcastle, Evansville, has accepted the position of assistant professor of biology at University of Southern Indiana. Originally from Little Rock, Ark., she previously worked as an instructor at University of Arkansas-Little Rock, University of Central Arkansas, Southwest Texas State University, and Austin Community College. She earned a Ph.D. in 2003 from University of Arkansas-Fayetteville, where she also earned an M.S. She holds a B.A. from Hendrix College.


Dr. Mikel Imaz, Evansville, has accepted the position of assistant professor of Spanish at University of Southern Indiana. Formerly of Phoenix, Ariz., he earned a Ph.D. in 2003 from Arizona State University, where he worked as a Spanish teaching assistant. He also holds a B.A. from Universidad de Deusto in Spain. A member of the Modern Language Association, he was recognized by Arizona State with a Ubiquity Award for the Most Outstanding Dissertation.


David Jones has accepted the position of assistant professor of English. A resident of Owensboro, Ky., he previously worked as a graduate assistant at Morehead State University, where he earned an M.A. in English in 2003 and a B.A. in English and philosophy in 2001. From 2000-03, he was an editorial staff member of Inscape, MSU’s visual and literary fine arts journal.


Dr. Stephen B. Shanklin, Martin, Tenn., has accepted the position of visiting assistant professor of accounting at University of Southern Indiana. He previously worked as a visiting professor of accounting and international business at University of Tennessee at Martin, assistant professor of accounting at Lambuth University in Tennessee, adjunct instructor of accounting at Washington University-St. Louis, and adjunct instructor of accounting at St. Louis University, where he earned a Ph.D. He also holds an M.B.A. and B.S. from University of Tennessee and a B.S.B.A. from Murray State University. Shanklin was named Lambuth University’s Educator of the Year in 2002 and received the University of Tennessee at Martin School of Business Outstanding Teacher Award in 2003. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Tennessee Society of CPAs, and the West Tennessee Society of CPAs.


Barbara J. Williams ’01 has accepted the position of instructor in occupational therapy at University of Southern Indiana. A resident of Poseyville, Ind., she previously worked as an adjunct faculty member in the USI Occupational Therapy Program and as an occupational therapist at HealthSouth Rehab Hospital. She is a doctoral candidate in occupational therapy at NovaSoutheastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and anticipates receiving her degree in 2004. She holds an M.S. in occupational therapy from Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., and a B.S. in occupational therapy from USI.
