USI retiree holding book signing on campus
|
Carolyn Smith, retired USI Academic Skills coordinator, will have a book signing for her novel, Beyond the Lies, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, December 12, in the University Center at University of Southern Indiana. A women’s fiction author, Smith’s nom de plume is Carolyn Russell. Her contract with Wings-ePress includes publication of the 326-page Beyond the Lies as both an eBook and in print. “I’m fascinated by stories about relationships and strong characters,” she said. “In Beyond the Lies, Gloria Miles lives a lie woven by insecure parents unable to admit Gloria isn’t theirs,” according to a description of the book provided by the author. “As she searches for her true identity, those who profess their love for Gloria practice their own brand of deceit, destroying her ability to trust and threatening her chances for happiness. Beyond the Lies is a story of relationships, love, betrayal, and survival.” Smith recently signed a contract for a second book that is scheduled for release in 2004. An Indiana native, she resided in Michigan, Illinois, and South Carolina before retiring to Missouri, where she is closer to her grandchildren and works part-time at the library in Poplar Bluff. A graduate of Ball State University, Smith holds a master’s in student personnel administration in higher education. She joined the University in 1989 and retired in 2000.
