Racial and ethnic tensions topic of USI forum
|
The University of Southern Indiana Honors Program will present its sixth annual public policy forum, “Racial and Ethnic Tensions: How Best to Achieve True Equality,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, in Mitchell Auditorium in the Health Professions Center. Students in HONS 101: Issues for the 21st Century will lead deliberation on the topic during the forum. Racial and ethnic tensions have been the focus of the class during the fall semester. The forum will be a moderated discussion in which the participants will work toward making choices involving public policy issues. The costs and outcomes of various solutions also will be addressed by the participants. All 70 students in the HONS 101 class will participate, and members of other honors programs on campus will attend as well. The forum is free and open to the public. Members of the community are invited to attend and will be allowed to speak. “Citizens need to become involved amongst themselves,” said Dr. Dean Partridge, associate professor of management and director of the University Honors Program. Partridge said the desired outcome of the forum is that the public will reach some common ground and form an agreement regarding the issues of racial and ethnic tensions. |
