University of Southern Indiana’s spring 2004 RopeWalk Reading Series will continue through March. Each program will start at 7 p.m. in Kleymeyer Hall in the Liberal Arts Center on campus and will be followed by a book signing. The schedule follows:

January 29 - Jim McGarrah
An assistant professor of English at USI, McGarrah is the author of the recently published Running the Voodoo Down, which received the 2003 Editor's Choice Award from Elixir Press. The collection of poems draws from his experiences in Vietnam and afterward. McGarrah holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from Vermont College, serves as managing editor of USI's Southern Indiana Review, and is a RopeWalk alumnus.

February 26 - Margaret McMullan
McMullan's new novel, In My Mother's House, is winning critical praise, as did her first novel, When Warhol was Still Alive. Her work has appeared in publications including Glamour, The Chicago Tribune, and The Greensboro Review. She is professor and chair of the English Department at University of Evansville and holds an M.F.A. from University of Arkansas. McMullan has been a member of the RopeWalk faculty and a part of the Hoosier Writers reading series.

March 17 – USI Creative Writing Faculty
USI's creative writing faculty will honor Irish writers in this special program that will include Irish music. Participating faculty will include: McGarrah; Patricia Aakhus, instructor in English; Leisa Belleau, instructor in English; Matthew Graham, associate professor of English; Ronald Mitchell, instructor in English; and Tonya Northenor, instructor in English.

Presented by USI’s School of Liberal Arts, readings in the series are free and open to the public. For more information, call McGarrah, 812/461-5208.

The RopeWalk Reading Series is made possible through the support of RopeWalk Writers Retreat, the Southern Indiana Review, USI Society for Arts & Humanities, National Endowment for the Arts, Indiana Arts Commission, and USI Student Writers’ Union.
